Daedalus · By Athenite
It doesn't just check your layout.
It finds one.
Daedalus is a factory-layout simulator and optimizer. Give it a site, a catalog, a target, and a budget — it designs the plant, then runs the design to see if it holds.
How it works
From floor plan to verdict.
Describe the site
Your real building, imported as a floor-plan underlay — obstacles, docks, multiple storeys. An equipment catalog with cycle times, failure rates, and prices. Transport options: conveyors, forklifts, AGVs, people. Demand targets and a capital budget.
Daedalus decides
Equipment purchases chosen by an exact optimization solve. A position, rotation, and storey for every machine. Conveyor routes across the floor. Buffer sizes, fleet counts, and crew counts.
Daedalus validates
A full stochastic discrete-event simulation of the finished design, with throughput reported as a 95% confidence interval — and a plain verdict:
Under the hood
Fast enough to be exhaustive.
A fast internal model screens a candidate layout in about eighteen microseconds; the full stochastic simulation takes about eleven milliseconds. That gap is what makes a million-layout search practical.
Runtime scales linearly or better in machine count — measured to 266 machines on synthetic plants. Design iterations stay interactive on ordinary hardware.
Every run reports a certified lower bound on the objective, with the optimality gap stated — you can see how close the answer is to provably best.
Capabilities
Built for real floors.
Existing equipment
Designs around the machines already on your floor, and prices every relocation.
The frontier, charted
Sweeps the budget; labor saved and payback reported as a range, point by point.
Walkability designed in
Clearances and egress checked against sourced safety guidance, OSHA among them.
Real floor plans
Works over a DXF underlay of your actual building — columns, walls, docks and all.
More than one floor
Chooses the storey for each machine, prices the lifts, and respects slab load limits.
Kept apart, by design
Ingredient and allergen separation built into the layout, not patched on after.
And when it's done, the findings arrive as a plain-English report — not a data dump.
Stated plainly
Where the model ends, your judgment begins.
Daedalus's numbers come from a model, and it never pretends otherwise. It does not schedule your production, certify regulatory compliance, or replace structural engineering. What it gives you is a defensible starting design and the evidence behind it — the engineering decision stays with you.
